What happens when you blend (arguably) Southeast Asia’s favourite rice dish with cake? You get the very real and purchasable Hainanese chicken rice cake, sold at this Wan Chai hotel.

Crafted by the Grand Café inside the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, the Hainanese chicken rice cake is made with a base layer of seasoned rice topped with poached yellow chicken. Decorations of cucumber line the circumference of the cake, with yellow and red tomatoes topping it.

And if that’s not enough, spring onion and garlic sauce, dark soy sauce, and sweet chilli sauce are paired up with the cake for authenticity.

The cake comes in three sizes: 300g (HKD488), 750g (HKD688), and 1kg (988). Orders must be placed one day prior to pick-up time and collected at the Chocolatier on the mezzanine floor of the hotel.
