Reborn from the story of RONIN and sitting right beside Yardbird in Sheung Wan, ALWAYS JOY izakaya opens its doors to the public on Mar. 25.

A passion project by Yardbird co-founders Matt Abergel and Lindsay Jang, the new izakaya restaurant brings on board the team from RONIN and a menu inspired by the now-closed Japanese restaurant. 

The food and drink menus are currently unavailable online, beckoning eager foodies to discover Matt and Lindsay’s newest restaurant in person from next week.

In an interview with Foodie in September 2024, Matt said, “To call [ALWAYS JOY] a Japanese dining experience, it’s not. It is the evolution of what we have built over the years.” 

The pair also stated that the restaurant would evolve within its own identity and not have a central theme or concept. “[ALWAYS JOY] is not going to be a massive departure from what people know and love about RONIN. We will have more space for the kitchen and customers to do more in this space,” said Lindsay last year.
