The new flagship location of Mother Pearl, a plant-based bubble tea brand that launched in Hong Kong in 2020 during the midst of the pandemic, has opened in Lan Kwai Fong with a lot more than health-conscious boba on the menu.
On the upper ground floor, the Crafted Bar awaits, serving up cocktails and mocktails made with traditional botanicals and functional elements, including dramatic oversized sharing drinks. The Price of Time (HKD499/HKD1,999), pictured above, is possibly the priciest cocktail in Hong Kong, built with aged chenpi and Johnnie Walker whisky.
Along with your tipple of choice upstairs, you can order up an array of refined bites (some non-vegetarian), such as Smoke & Pearls (HKD191) pairing smoked tea egg with caviar and Curious Burrata (HKD282) nestled on a bed of house-made chilli crunch.
The lower ground floor is where to find Mother Pearl’s vegan bubble tea as well as a new range of espresso creations and wellness beverages. For instance, Midnight Dust (HKD49) is a riff on a classic mocha with black sesame and sea salt vanilla cream, whilst Clever Coca (HKD86) incorporates lion’s mane mushroom into a blend of banana, mango, chocolate sauce, oat milk, and coconut yoghurt.
Healthy grab-and-go food options are also available, including the chicken power wrap (HKD122), mushroom harvest wrap (HKD113), and mochi cookies (HKD31).
The standout for us though is Mother Pearl’s newly launched sugar-free vegan gelato (from HKD67/scoop) collection crafted with oat milk, coming in flavours like oolong tea, dark chocolate, and vanilla.
Time will tell if the high prices are worth it!
