You might be right to bemoan Hong Kong’s lack of regional Sicilian recipes. Yet, at Ask for Alonzo, your worry should be allayed with the introduction of “Taste of Sicily,” a limited-time menu available till Nov. 15 featuring the south of Italy’s best flavours.
The three-course menu (HKD358 pp) draws on recipes from Sicily’s eastern coast where cooks across Messina, Taormina, Catania, and Syracuse have long enjoyed crudo, more specifically yellowtail crudo with Sicilian lemon drizzled atop.
The main course, the venerable rigatoni alla norma, is a Sicilian pasta classic, joining both fried crisp and sautéed eggplant with tomato, ricotta salata, basil, and olive oil. This dish is snappy with a dose of Italian chilli.
Diners can add on the Sicilian octopus (+HKD88) to the menu, along with a final course of olive oil orange cake made with Sicilian olive oil, orange syrup, and a heap of mascarpone to balance the sugariness.
For drinks, the menu includes a sharp Sicilian lemonade (HKD48), gazzosa rossa (HKD68) sparkling soft drink, and an Averna sour (HKD88).
