How Sweden is Shaping Food’s Future

A key feature of this weekend’s Food’s Future Summit is our exciting partnership with the Consulate-General of Sweden. Sweden was an obvious choice as our inaugural feature country of the Summit; in both the public and private sectors, this country is a world leader in devising advanced and progressive solutions for a sustainable future in the world of food and beyond.

To kick things off, Helena Storm, Consul-General of Sweden in Hong and Macau, will deliver her opening remarks on Day 1 of the Summit (Friday, 21 September), explaining her country’s innovative approach to inspiring and initiating change within the world of food.

Following the lunch break on Day 1, all eyes and ears will be on the speakers of the How Sweden is Designing Food’s Future panel, with movers and shakers from this Scandinavian country sharing lessons, examples and policies showing how Sweden is helping to design our planet’s food-based future. Panellists include Professor Lars Montelius, Director-General of the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Portugal, Annika Grälls, whose groundbreaking work at Alfred Nobel Science Park in Sweden focuses on food and meal innovations, Johan Jörgensen, founder of food-innovation pioneer Sweden Foodtech, and Tommy Leung, who founded GAFELL, a start-up with Swedish origins producing delicious ready meals in Hong Kong.

GAFELL will also be showcased at the Foodie Marketplace: Future Edition, running throughout the Summit, to offer guests a glimpse at some of the latest and most intriguing products and services related to the future of food.

Later in the afternoon on Day 1, Johan Jörgensen will make an appearance in the Food Tech track on the Dining in Innovation panel, discussing how science and technology are shaping our dining experiences, while Professor Lars Montelius will return on the Blockchain in our Food Chain panel, with a look at blockchain and its possible solutions to current problems in the F&B industry. Then on the morning of Day 2 (Saturday, 22 September), Professor Montelius makes a comeback, joining Björn Segerblomon on the Future of Food Safety panel, exploring how technological advances can ensure that our food is really what it claims to be on the label. Living in Hong Kong for nearly 20 years, Swede Björn is engaged in board, advisory and project assignments related to food safety, focusing on Hong Kong, Asia and Scandinavia.
