The nearly-60-year-old Sammy’s Kitchen will be serving their final dinner this month as the restaurant is set to close on Jan. 31.

Sammy’s Kitchen enjoyed a reputation for its soy sauce western fare, a blend of Cantonese and Western delights popularised in the era of fanciful dining from the 1960s in Hong Kong.

Counting former Hong Kong Governors Murray MacLehose and Edward Youde, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Chow Yun-fat, and Stephen Chow as former and current fans of the restaurant, diners have until the end of the month to support the restaurant.

Sammy’s Kitchen originally had plans to close their Sai Ying Pun location in September 2017, before subsequently extending their stay in the neighbourhood for two more years and through the pandemic.

Owner Ms. Yip told local media that the post-pandemic business environment has affected sales, hit by the proliferation of this-this rice, Shenzhen’s rise as a dining destination, and continued spending abroad. The owners shared that they did not want to increase menu prices in order to stay afloat.
