Nice Nori, opening on Oct. 9, is a dinner-only pop-up dreamt up by the Black Sheep Restaurants team zeroing in on both classic and creative handrolls, more commonly known as temaki in Japanese parlance.
The Black Sheep folks have brought in a cracking chef, Daniel Garner, formerly of Nobu Malibu and Zuma New York and Miami, to curate the three temaki sets on offer, with each comprised of three handrolls. To go the whole hog, the five-handroll omakase (HKD788) is a surprise selection chosen by the chef on the day.
In terms of the made-to-order sets, The Classics (HKD328) includes familiar favourites such as yellowtail and scallion and California roll. The Signatures (HKD348) amps up the ingenuity with lemongrass shrimp in red curry dressing and Hokkaido scallop with tobiko, whilst The Royale (HKD608) pushes the boundaries of luxury even further with aburi Wagyu tartare with quail egg and Hokkaido uni with nikiri soy.
Beyond the handrolls, the à-la-carte menu includes inventive bites like the sakura smoked salmon dip (HKD188), grilled oysters (HKD348), hay-smoked hamachi (HKD198), and sashimi tacos (HKD138).
Nice Nori is set to end its Soho run at the end of 2026, but perhaps it will prove to be so popular that it will become a permanent fixture on Elgin Street.
