Full Circle: This month, The Langham Hotel swings open the doors of its revamped Palm Court, and sweetens the launch with the premier of an afternoon tea with Wedgwood. Tucked in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui, Palm Court, named after the original restaurant in The Langham in London, celebrates its new facelift with an unique Wedgwood specialty tea set served in tailor-made “Langham Rose” Wedgwood tea ware, accompanied by a tantalizing menu created by the hotels’ pastry chefs. The original Palm Court, based in The Langham London, is reputed to be the birthplace of traditional English afternoon tea, and The Langham Hong Kong will be the first to premier this “Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood” amongst the hotel chain. The hotel’s new award-winning executive pastry chef, Reinhard Lackner, has created a special menu of delicate finger-sandwiches and scrumptious cakes and pastries to entice guests.
The Goodies: With a choice of teas selected by Langham’s Wedgwood Tea Academy-trained and certified tea sommelier, the Afternoon Tea experience begins with a selection of delicate nibbles, followed by artistically-crafted pastries and cakes. Signature treats such as the rose-scented lychee mousse, composed of burgundy red chocolate cups with hints of gold, rose-scented raspberry coulis filled with lychee mousse and topped with pink icing rose petals and fresh raspberries, sounds almost too pretty to eat. A quirky spin on the traditional blueberry crumble, Chef Reinhard’s version comes in a mini purple chocolate cup detailed in silver, filled with blueberry and cream cheese, and balanced with a graham crumble with fresh blueberries. The whole “crumble” is then crowned with a white chocolate and silver leaf diamond ring – a truly edible proposal.
Not to be ignored, the savory selection of finger sandwiches ranging from crab and cucumber, to cured ham, to house-smoked salmon, will definitely give the sweet temptations some delicious competition. And of course, there are always warm, fresh-out-of-the-oven scones lathered in fluffy Devonshire clotted cream and rose preserves in case you’re still starving.
The scrumptious afternoon tea is served on Wedgwood bone China, exclusively created for the Langham Hotel. This newly launched afternoon tea is priced at $298 for one person, and $498 for two, and is available from 3-5:30pm on weekdays, and 2:15-6:30pm on weekends and public holidays.
