Foodie members and other guests flocked to Hotel ICON last week for a great evening of exploring the diversity of South African wine. The event featured 140 wines from regions including the new cool areas of Elgin and Hermanus, the rediscovered Swartland, as well as the classic Stellenbosch and Franschhoek were presented to guests.
Apart from the delicious wines, Hotel ICON has prepared mouth-watering South African tapas platters, including Butter Chicken Mini Bunny Chows, Lamb Sosaties and Boerewors Hot Dogs to accompany the wine. The South African Shop also offered South African favourite’s biltong and other snacks on site.At the education corner, sommelier Neil Grant, over from South Africa specially for this occasion, led guests to taste the South African bubbles, Methodé Cap Classique, a sparkling wine made using the traditional champagne method and with a quality that rivals some of the big French names. While at the sommelier corner, guests were amazed by all the aromas that could be found in wine, and had a great time playing the blind aroma smelling game.
Last but not least, a few lucky guests won bottles of South African wine and a one night accommodation at Hotel ICON.
