If you love steak, you’ve probably visited Morton’s The Steakhouse, located at the Sheraton in TST. If not, put it on your to-do list – better still, make a reservation right now. They get everything right and make it look simple.

On entering, we were struck by the amazing views of the Island (alone worth the visit ), and luckily we were booked in at 8pm and got to see the Symphony of Lights show from our window table. The soft lighting and modern pop music were also just right, proving that the ambience of a restaurant is vital to the customer experience.

Prior to our visit, we had been told of the impeccable service, a reputation that is still intact. The staff were faultless. Looking around, we noticed this was a place for everyone – lone business travellers, families and couples.

Jumbo Lump Crab Cake

We went to Morton’s for one reason. It’s called The Steakhouse. Of course they offer other dishes, but it’s called The Steakhouse. But instead of jumping in head first, we teased ourselves with the signature jumbo lump crab cake ($210). This was a healthy portion of tender crabmeat that went down a storm.

We decided to order two different steaks, the seven-ounce American Wagyu filet mignon ($688) from the Seasonal Selections menu and, on recommendation, the 22-ounce bone-in rib-eye ($748). The Wagyu filet was delightful and came with fire-roasted poblano butter that literally melted in the mouth.

Our favourite was the bone-in rib-eye – we were salivating just looking at it. It arrived medium rare, juicy and tender. With each bite, we considered another order.

To go with our steaks, we devoured the creamed spinach ($120) and au gratin potatoes ($130), worthy comfort-food counterparts to the stellar steaks.

Cheese Cake

For dessert, we opted for the New York cheesecake ($125). With its velvety-smooth, rich texture, it was the right choice to finish our meal on a high.

Verdict

We had a great time at Morton’s. The restaurant has been standing strong in Hong Kong for 18 years now, and it’s easy to see why with the trifecta of brilliant service, a pleasant atmosphere and great food. Like a hit movie, you know there will be a sequel, and we are planning ours very soon.
