The annual list naming the best bars in Asia has been released, and the place that’s garnered the top spot is a home-grown Hong Kong watering hole.

The Old Man, located on Aberdeen Street in Central, is named after Hemingway’s famous short novel, and its sister bar, The Sea, further along in Sheung Wan, opened just last month (great for a book-club bar-hop, wethinks). This bar is a showcase of the hospitality background of the three industry veterans behind it: Roman Ghale, formerly the senior operations manager at The Upper House, Agung Prabowo, previously the bar manager at the Shangri-La and Mandarin Oriental, and James Tamang, originally The Mira hotel’s bar manager.

The Old Man was our own winner for Best New Bar last year at the Foodie Forks awards, and we wonder if The Sea has gained enough of a following yet to take home the Readers’ Choice award this year, with all to be revealed this coming Monday evening at our annual awards party.
