Our award-winning Food’s Future Summit is back for its third year. Launched in 2017 to inspire and initiate change in the world of food, previous attendees have called this the must-attend event of the year for anyone in the food space.
What is the Food’s Future Summit?
Over two days of talks, panels, discussions, showcases and meals, the Food’s Future Summit gathers change-makers, experts and conscious consumers to delve into key innovations, trends and issues in the culinary and food technology ecosystems. Together, we’ll seek to tackle and call attention to several key questions that are rarely addressed in such an accessible yet comprehensive format.
Why should I care about the future of food?
If you’ve been living under a rock, here’s a quick refresher of current projections and forecasts:
By 2050, the global population will have grown by one-third. However, we may only be able to feed half of 2050’s population at current food production rates. It’s not just quantity – environmental and sustainability problems also threaten the global food supply and nutrition. Our current food system contributes up to 30 per cent of global greenhouse-gas emissions, accounts for 80 per cent of global deforestation and uses 70 per cent of the world’s available fresh water. Plastic in the oceans is expected to outweigh fish by 2050, and some estimates suggest that we might even run out of fish by 2048.
It’s clear that we must urgently overhaul what and how we eat. But where do we start and how do we proceed? Join us at the Food’s Future Summit to explore key developments and innovations that will help you to navigate this space, whether you’re working or investing in the food ecosystem or are simply a concerned global citizen looking to more consciously choose your meals.
What you can look forward to
Unprecedented gathering of leaders in the food space
The Summit is the first such event of its kind in Hong Kong. Expect to meet and hear from local and international experts, academics, investors, industry leaders, insiders, key innovators and advocates – providing all the insights and connections you’ll need to successfully understand and chart your course in the changing global food ecosystem.
Learning how unicorns eat
The Summit has included an international feature component since 2018 in order to learn from and be inspired by global efforts in this space. Together with our co-host, Global:SF, we’ll be flying in special speakers and celebrity chefs from the San Francisco Bay Area, home to some of the world’s most innovative and influential companies, not to mention a dynamic and delicious culinary scene.
Special launches and Innovation Showcase
The Summit has always championed the next generation of game-changers creating a more sustainable food ecosystem. We’ll be unveiling a number of “world’s first” launches and announcements at the 2019 Summit (stay tuned for more details), and you’ll have an opportunity to browse, taste and try the newest food and dining innovations at our special Innovation Showcase. We’ll also be handing out our first-ever Food’s Future Innovation Award to recognise and reward a promising new company shaping our food’s future. Nominations/applications are still open if you think you fit the bill.
