In the United States, Thanksgiving revs up the festive mood that leads up to Christmas and New Year’s. Though there’s no Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade here in Hong Kong, we are still up for celebrating anything that involves delicious food. Our greedy appetite is certainly thankful for this holiday!


Thanksgiving at Franks Hong Kong

Our favourite Italian-American diner – and Foodie Forks 2019 Editors’ Choice Best New RestaurantFranks will splash out in style this Thanksgiving with a Southern-inspired menu, starting with Chef Darnell Field’s homemade burrata and pizzeria insalata before moving onto roast turkey with all the trimmings. Gravy, cranberry sauce, apple butter and chive butter will compete for slathering on the juicy bird, while honey-glazed Brussels sprouts, homemade fennel sausage stuffing, garlic mashed potato, fluffy buttermilk biscuits and classic mac ‘n’ cheese fill up the rest of the table. Oreo cookie pie and classic apple crumble round out this belt-loosening menu.

Thanksgiving at Kinship Hong Kong

American-born chef Chris Grare will be cooking up a storm this Thanksgiving alongside his co-founder, British chef Arron Rhodes, who now manages the front of house at Kinship. The three-course menu features a mouth-watering line-up of options, ranging from chicken and potato potage, to seafood ceviche, to slow-cooked turkey breast with confit leg, to baked cod with creamy polenta, to pumpkin ricotta tortellini with hazelnut crumble. Dessert comes in the form of buttery apple pie crumble with Mr Whippy homemade cinnamon ice cream or chocolate mousse with cherry and praline crunch. Stay tuned for a special feast called FRIENDSgiving on Sunday, 1 December, when chefs and mixologists from La Rambla, Komune, Maximal Concepts, JIA Group and Please Don’t Tell will showcase their skills in a family-style dinner ($488/person; +$288 for free-flow).

Thanksgiving at Morty’s Hong Kong

For a hassle-free Thanksgiving at home, look no further than Morty’s for their takeaway feast. Available in two turkey sizes (7.5kg and 10kg), complete with pastrami stuffing, sweet potato mash, gravy, cranberry sauce, roast vegetables and cornbread, you can be the hostess with the mostest without even breaking a sweat. Finish off with a bevy of dessert options including lemon tart, chocolate tart, walnut tart and apple and red berry crumble. There’s a honey-glazed ham option for those not keen on a gobbler. This package is available until New Year’s Eve, so it could also substitute for a Christmas or New Year’s meal at home.

While most families in the USA are cosying up indoors for their Thanksgiving feasts, diners in Hong Kong can enjoy theirs beachside overlooking the surf at Repulse Bay’s Limewood restaurant. This Thanksgiving, tuck into a family-style spread filled with goodies the likes of rustic winter salad, free-range Hunter Valley turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, roasted garlic mashed potato and pecan pie with bourbon whipped cream. After dinner, you can work off the calories with a stroll on the sand. There’s an additional group Turkey Dinner option offered daily from now until Boxing Day.

For those yearning for a taste of home without making a huge mess, there’s the Thanksgiving-in-one-plate option at Big Sur, where diners can get all their holiday favourites on one plate. Expect herb-smoked turkey with sourdough gravy, cranberry and pickled peach condiment, pork and cornbread stuffing, Brussels sprouts and kale with chestnut butter, roasted carrots with maple syrup and ricotta and sage mashed potato. Cap off the meal with a slice of “burnt” pumpkin cheesecake ($60). There’s also a Thanksgiving Family Meal takeaway package available that includes similar items.

Popular grill specialist Mr Brown is getting in on the Thanksgiving action with a sharing menu that’s a tribute to the U S of A. Starters include corn and buttermilk fritters, smoked pork croquettes and crab cakes, there’s a main of roast turkey with all the trimmings and, for dessert, tuck into apple and pecan pie with bourbon ice cream.

Thanksgiving at Porterhouse Hong Kong

Porterhouse Executive Chef Angelo Vecchio is offering diners two options for good eats this Thanksgiving. First, if you want to escape all the at-home fuss, there’s a five-course set dinner at the restaurant on the day that includes roasted squash and ginger soup, USDA Prime beef tartare, pumpkin pennette with Italian sausage and baby spinach, turkey leg roll with sides aplenty and pecan pie with mascarpone and Cointreau foam. Or you can feast with the fam at home with a group takeaway option featuring a 6kg roasted organic turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potato, crispy Brussels sprouts with bacon, French beans with shallot dressing and sautéed spinach with garlic and chilli.
