The anticipated celebrations for the upcoming Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, which for the past two years took place in Macau and were next due to take place in Saga Prefecture, Japan, on 24 March 2020, will now be moving to a digital format.
The reason behind this decision is, of course, the coronavirus pandemic, with a global spread that is forcing events like this one to be cancelled or changed drastically. With travel restricted in many parts of Asia and people reluctant to fly unnecessarily, along with the Japanese government’s advice to limit large-scale events, this isn’t an altogether surprising move.
However, the awards ceremony and #50BestTalks will lend themselves well to the virtual medium, where they will be “premium-level streamed”.
