Last Sunday saw the launch of a fresh new beer from Yardley Brothers: #KindnessMatters Pale Ale. It was brewed in collaboration with ImpactHK and Webbe International to raise funds for the homeless in Hong Kong, launched at The Beer Shack on Lamma Island.

ImpactHK is a non-profit that provides the homeless in Hong Kong with friendship, food, shelter, education and employment opportunities. It started with the simple aim of doing one act of kindness per month for the homeless, and it has significantly grown to become a powerful humanitarian movement in Hong Kong.

It was on an ImpactHK Kindness Walk that Webbe International Managing Director Scott Taylor became involved.

“Through our regular walks, we build trust and friendship with the homeless in the hope of creating opportunities for change. Along the way, we also support others in need such as the elderly, cleaners and the poor.” – ImpactHK

The walk took the Webbe team around the homeless community of Sham Shui Po, handing out food and masks. After the walk, Scott saw those living on the streets of Hong Kong with a kind of clarity, and he set about making a plan to further help to support the work that ImpactHK is doing.

As an avid home brewer, Scott brought fellow Lamma resident Luke Yardley from local craft brewery Yardley Brothers on board to create a fresh, unique and easy-drinking beer that could be privately sold, with all profits donated to ImpactHK.

Thus #KindnessMatters Pale Ale was born.

In order to find a suitable beer label, they ran a local design competition. The Beer Shack clientele and Lamma residents voted on the best design, and the winner was Dutch graphic designer Annemarijn de Boer with a colourful cityscape.

For the launch last week, Luke and Scott were joined by ImpactHK Business Development Manager Greg March to speak about those who will benefit from this project (and to enjoy some fresh beer and live music).

You can’t – you’ve missed it. There were two kegs at The Beer Shack that sold out, and the rest was bottled and sold at HK$800 per 24-bottle case.

The good news is that this was such a successful run there are plans to make this a more permanent income stream for ImpactHK, helping tremendously in these uncertain times. There is more coming!
