Trendsetting LPM Restaurant & Bar will launch its first-ever experimental cocktail menu on Monday, 11 October, with the special global menu paying tribute to the celebrated French author, artist and bon vivant Jean Cocteau. A literary and artistic wonder, Cocteau was legendary during the early 1900s for his acclaimed works the likes of Beauty and the Beast, The Clown Prince and Orpheus.

The experimental cocktails are inspired by Cocteau, and the commemorative menu entitled “Recipes for our Friends” features unique concoctions based on various periods of his colourful life.

Highlights include 1889 Americano ($120), which marks the year of Cocteau’s birth and also coincides with the creation of Suze, a bitter French liqueur made from gentian roots. This is a mellow blend of vanilla-infused Suze and toasted pineapple – a great way to begin an evening.

Pablo ($120) pays tribute to Cocteau’s friendship with Picasso and features a blend of The Botanist gin, tarragon, orange and mint cordial, adorned with three carefully placed dots of blue-green to commemorate the artist’s favourite colour. We particularly enjoyed the creamy mouthfeel of the drink, underlined by a slight herbal note.

Orphée ($130) features Mediterranean flavours of peach, apricot, clementine and almond, along with a wash of Greek yoghurt, and is a nod to Cocteau’s celebrated Orphic Trilogy of films. The ceramic cups are hand-painted by one of LPM’s bar staff in Dubai, adding even more character to the global menu.

Criquet de Milly ($120) is a spin on the classic Grasshopper cocktail and features zingy peppermint liqueur that’s blended with coconut sorbet and dusted with chocolate shavings. Peppermint is known to blanket Cocteau’s home in Milly-la-Forêt, France, so this drink brings the menu full circle. The rich, sweet tipple also doubles as a dessert, reminding us of an After Eight mint-chocolate square.

Raise a glass to celebrate the life and works of one of France’s greatest artists!
