Though we’re still in the depths of winter, spring is in the air with BIFTECK’s new afternoon tea set by Executive Chef Ken Kwok. Unlike other afternoon teas around town, this French-Japanese set veers towards the savoury side of the spectrum, which is music to our umami-loving ears. Inside the chic wooden box, you’ll find delights like beef tartare crispy potato mille-feuille, slow-cooked Italian octopus tempura with ikura, mini spicy salmon onigiri, crabmeat and sweetcorn espuma and more. To welcome the new year, Cordis, Hong Kong has launched a tempting afternoon tea set at Alibi in partnership with Korean beauty brand LANEIGE, in celebration of the debut of the Perfect Renew 3X Signature Serum. For all-you-can-eat teatime indulgence, The Astor at Eaton HK is the place to be this winter. Gateway Hotel, Hong Kong (Pink FONtastic Afternoon Tea by Three on Canton)
Three on Canton at Gateway Hotel presents this pink-hued afternoon tea set where the star of the show has got to be the pink chocolate fondue, served with marshmallows, melon, strawberries and cheesecake pieces for dipping. Salmon on toast, stewed beef with dark chocolate, apricot cream cheese and ham tortilla wrap, strawberry panna cotta, pink fruit tart and orange chocolate cake are amongst the 11 bite-sized treats featured. Hotel ICON (Japanese Strawberry Festival Afternoon Tea by GREEN)
Luscious whole strawberries imported from five areas of Kyushu are the stars of this three-course afternoon tea at GREEN at Hotel ICON, which also includes free-flow homemade green tea soy ice cream topped with unlimited Okinawan black sugar mochi and sweet red beans from Hokkaido. To kick things off, choose from a starter like baked Hiroshima oyster and Japanese pumpkin cream soup; then it’s time to choose a main course from the likes of pan-fried grouper fillet with Japanese strawberry salsa and balsamic vinegar and grass-fed sirloin with mashed potato and Japanese red wine sauce. The premium Japanese strawberry platter is complemented by six more strawberry-flavoured sweet treats crafted by Executive Chef Danny Ho and team, from Japanese strawberry tiramisu to Japanese strawberry mochi. We know from experience that Chef Ho’s afternoon tea sets are legendary, so definitely book in for this one.

Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong (Secret Garden Tea Party by The Farmhouse x belif)
Held at the hotel’s charming, harbour-facing all-day-dining eatery The Farmhouse, Hyatt Centric’s afternoon tea launch is a good ‘un. The experience, in collaboration with Korean herbal skincare brand belif, kicks off with a glass of bubbly on arrival and showcases unlimited ice cream in a rainbow of flavours, plus made-to-order crêpes Suzette, croffles and crêpe cones. There’s also a very generous selection of sweet and savoury bites presented to each table – salmon tartine, merguez and Brie de Meaux AOP on the savoury side and cassis cheesecake, raspberry financier, chocolate madeleine and a dynamite praline choux for the sweet-toothed.

This winter, Kerry Hotel is joining forces with Korean “creative” makeup brand 3CE to present this inventive and playful afternoon tea in tribute to the company’s independent spirit and iconic products. On the savoury side, the bites include 3CE egg toast with Kristal caviar and mustard mayo (the “C” represents caviar and the “E” stands for egg) and white asparagus “lipstick” with black truffle, while on the sweet front, there’s Korean strawberry tart, trio chocolate cake and lychee and sakura tart to look forward to.

Kowloon Shangri-La (Blooming Elegance Afternoon Tea by Lobby Lounge x HABA)
Kowloon Shangri-La’s latest collab is with Japanese additive-free skincare brand HABA. The culinary team have come up with eight creative sweets and savouries made with extracts of lavender and white peony to match HABA’s natural ingredients. These bites include the likes of sous-vide abalone with winter ginger and lavender, serrano ham, rocket and pesto in mini lavender bagel, lavender-yuzu macaron and sakura-strawberry cheese tart. Freshly baked cherry blossom with winter melon scones and a seasonal fruit platter are also yours for the eating.

Cucina, located at the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel, presents an afternoon tea set incorporating authentic Italian ingredients. The 11 delicate morsels designed by Chef de Cuisine Andrea Delzanno include bruschetta with tomato, avocado and red onion, duck-liver terrine with mango jelly, mini tart of mushroom and leek with truffle mascarpone, lavender panna cotta, camomile madeleine and matcha macaron, with this final sweet trio incorporating plants that are both mood boosters and stress relievers. Moxie x Matchali Afternoon Tea 
Health-conscious, plant-based Moxie adds to its green repertoire with a limited-time afternoon tea in partnership with Matchali, Hong Kong’s first matcha-dedicated tea shop. It includes three of Chef Michael Smith’s signature savoury bites alongside four sweet creations – all dairy free – crafted using Matchali’s ceremonial-grade matcha and artisanal hojicha powder. A choice of Matchali’s matcha and hojicha bevvies are also part of the tea menu, from matcha latte for the purist to an innovative yuzu-matcha lemonade.

Paper Moon (Waterfront Afternoon Tea Indulgence)
This afternoon tea by the harbour at Paper Moon sounds like a great way to beat any winter blues. The set starts off with a sumptuous mini seafood tower featuring Irish oysters, grilled lobster tail and sturgeon caviar with sour cream and blinis. Then it’s on to the elegant three-tiered stand of Italian-inspired bites including focaccia with avocado and hard-boiled egg, Parma ham with melon, brioche with corned beef and semi-dried tomato, raspberry Chantilly cream tart with chocolate chips, salted caramel panna cotta and triple chocolate mousse cake. Regent Hong Kong (Afternoon Tea by The Lobby Lounge)
Newly opened Regent Hong Kong has entered the afternoon tea scene with a bang with its scrumptious teatime offerings at The Lobby Lounge – not to mention those breathtaking views… Executive Pastry Chef Andy Yeung has designed a classic, seasonally updated afternoon tea set that features a three-tiered selection of homemade finger sandwiches, mini versions of his glorious cakes, scones and madeleines, served with clotted cream and a very unique rosemary-quince jam. We highly recommend adding on glasses of the lightly effervescent bottled Bellini cocktail by Sei Bellissimi, a delightful combo of Moscatel and peach pulp.

The Royal Garden’s classy lounge, J’s Bar Bistro, has joined hands with Swiss brand Victorinox for an afternoon tea set themed around the flavours of Switzerland. Cheese fondue is a highlight on the savoury side, while raspberry white chocolate dome, tonka bean madeleine and citrus soufflé delight on the sweet side. Traditional scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam are complemented by the hotel’s signature palmiers, served with coffee, Dammann Frères tea or two glasses of the eatery’s red-hued Perfume Moment mocktail, made with hibiscus, raspberry purée and rose syrup.

The Tiffany Blue Box Cafe (Tiffany Lock Afternoon Tea)
In celebration of Tiffany & Co’s latest jewellery collection, Tiffany Lock, the Blue Box Cafe space has temporarily been transformed into the distinctive Lock Cafe until the end of March, serving up a tea set highlighted by exquisite sweet treats of Mini Blue Box – 70% dark chocolate mousse, crunchy praline and raspberry jam designed as an iconic Tiffany gift box – taro choux, chestnut and coconut tart, strawberry and pistachio dacquoise and Tiffany Bird’s Nest, an invention concoction of robin-egg-blue caramels in a kataifi nest. Savoury delicacies include caviar and lobster tart, snow crab puff, sakura shrimp royale and more. The Upper House (Salisterra x Hole Foods Afternoon Tea)
Executive Chef Cary Docherty and the Salisterra team at The Upper House have joined forces with Hole Foods, a local bakery specialising in handcrafted doughnuts in global flavours, for this home-grown afternoon tea featuring Hole Foods’ exclusive strawberry and cream doughnut made with locally grown, handpicked strawberries from New Territories complemented by Chef Docherty’s oyster pi’ boy, a fusion of Hong Kong’s iconic pineapple bun and a Louisiana-style po’ boy made with battered oyster. Additional East-meets-West goodies such as typhoon shelter crab on toast, jambon et beurre made with Chinese sausage, peanut opera cake, strawberry eclair and mandarin bavarois with almond sponge await.

At W Hong Kong, WOOBAR’s new afternoon tea is a tribute to the local flavours that are disappearing with time.
