Possibly seen as a French critique of local dining customs, a commentary on how water must be drunk in Hong Kong, this Sai Ying Pun restaurant is charging a premium of HKD500 for warm water to customers.

Bistrot du Vin, relocating to a larger space at Sai Ying Pun’s The Fine Wine Experience this March after its teenagehood of 15 years spent in Kennedy Town, is the culprit in this daylight robbery.

If you don’t fancy forking out a small fortune on a glass of tempered aqua, still or sparkling water can be ordered for just HKD60 a bottle and coffee or tea for HKD40.

You might be out of luck if you require soothing warm water to chase down the restaurant’s menu of rich French charcuterie, meat, seafood, and dessert.

(According to the staff, you can waive the charge if you ask for a warm water nicely!)
