Starbucks’ newly launched harbour-view concept store at Hong Kong Palace Museum may be the most impressive to date for the global coffee giant.

The shop’s thoughtful design blends Chinese influences with bespoke works by three local artists, fitting for the museum locale.

Westley Wong’s “Starbucks” brush calligraphy signage at the entrance sets the tone. The layered botanical paintings by Elsa Ngai peppered throughout the store mirror the life cycle of a coffee plant, whilst there’s a striking ceramic wall installation by porcelain sculptor Leo Wong inspired by the landscape of Yunnan.

The café’s menu offers items that are exclusive to the Hong Kong Palace Museum location, such as the plant-based Turmeric Oatmilk Latte (HKD41) on the drink side.

The food items are just as interesting, kicking off with bites that take their cue from the museum’s limited-time blockbuster exhibition “Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums,” the Golden Pistachio Pyramid (HKD44) pistachio-filled chocolate sponge cake and Mummy’s Secret Roll (HKD28) savoury sausage pastry. Both will be available from Feb. 10.

Patrons can expect to browse Starbucks merch themed around ancient Egypt and the museum itself.
