Though not as world famous as France and Austria, the Scandinavian (Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) and Nordic (plus Finland and Iceland) countries also have a long history of outstanding European baking traditions.

Scandinavian baked goods are not easy to come by in Hong Kong, so we’re thrilled to introduce you to Smør & Sugar, an online bakery currently hosting a brick-and-mortar pop-up space at Taikoo Place in Quarry Bay.

The stars of the bakery’s menu are Nordic buns and pastries made with seasonal ingredients, running the gamut from the classic cardamom bun (HKD38), to the Swedish semla (HKD52) spiced brioche bun filled will almond paste and whipped cream, to the tebirkes (HKD42), a flaky Danish pastry with poppy seed and marzipan.

On the savoury front, Smør & Sugar bakes up the likes of the rugbrød loaf (HKD75), a traditional sourdough rye bread from Denmark, and the halloumi pesto croissant (HKD48), veering from Nordic routine.

Smør & Sugar’s Taikoo Place pop-up is open Monday through Friday from 10AM to 7PM

We hope the bakery finds a permanent home in Hong Kong soon!
