ABEBE’s signature cream buns and doughnuts are making their way to Hong Kong with the imminent opening of the South Korean bakery’s first Hong Kong location, soft-opening in Tsim Sha Tsui on Sep. 13.

ABEBE’s takeaway-only menu speaks to the location where it was founded – Jeju – using ingredients that are synonymous with the Korean island. There are nine varieties of cream doughnuts and seven cream buns up for grabs.

On the doughnut side, the dirty chocolate cream doughnut is the bakery’s deserving bestseller, with the Gasiri black sesame cream doughnut and Jeju matcha cream doughnut worthy runners-up.

ABEBE’s cream buns differ from the Hong Kong bakery norm owing to the inclusion of chewy glutinous rice cake, making for a delightful contrast in texture. Hero products on the bun side include the Geumneung apple cream bun, Yeongsil Ranch pure milk cream bun, and Wimi hallabong cream bun, which stars Jeju’s intensely sweet citrus fruit.

Approaching seven years old, ABEBE has since expanded from Jeju Island with the opening of branches in Seoul and Tokyo.
