You may be right to bemoan Hong Kong’s lack of regional Sicilian recipes. Yet, at Ask for Alonzo, your worry may be allayed with the introduction of Tate of Sicily, a limited-time menu available till Nov. 15 featuring the South’s best flavours.
The three-course menu (HKD358 per person) draws recipes from Sicily’s eastern coast where cooks across Messina, Taormina, Catania, and Syracuse have long enjoyed crudo, more specifically yellowtail crudo offering a snap with Sicilian lemon drizzled atop.
The main dish, a venerable rigatoni all norma, is a pure Sicilian classic, joining both fried crisp and sauteed eggplant with tomatoes, ricotta salata, basil, and olive oil. The dish is snappy with a dose of humble Italian chilli.
Diners can add on the Sicilian octopus (+HKD88) to the menu with the final course an olive oil orange cake paired with Sicilian olive oil, orange syrup, and a heaping of mascarpone to level the sugary touch.
For drinks, the menu includes a sharp Sicilian lemonade (HKD48), gazossa rossa (HKD68) spritz, and an averna sour (HKD88).
