This is not your normal Hong Kong café – No Milkshake No Life is a small food concept store that prides itself on its homemade speciality sauces and recipes.
Having only just opened, No Milkshake No Life has already received good reviews from fellow food lovers. Hence my Foodie partner Michael and I decided to try out their menu to see if it is really worth the hype. We were both captivated by how artsy, creative and interesting the decorations were as we walked into the shop. In fact, as we arrived, we weren’t quite sure if it was a café, as it was full of home decor items. Other than serving its customers freshly made food, No Milkshake No Life also sells these items, which are all part of the café’s decoration.
Fried chicken ($58)
We started off by trying the fried chicken, which was one of the dishes recommended by the owner. The chicken itself was quite flavourful. It was crispy yet tender and was even better when dipped in the homemade spicy sauce. In fact, the sauce was so good, we asked the owner what it was made of but were told that it was a secret recipe. However, as Michael added, ‘There is too much batter, too little chicken.’
Mad and Cheers with pancetta ($58)
The signature Mad and Cheers with pancetta was the most disappointing dish. The whole thing was lacking in flavour (we couldn’t detect a hint of the blue cheese that was supposedly included), and we could barely taste the pancetta. Michael added, ‘It may be quite bland, but I guess it is trying to imitate homemade mac and cheese, so it will not taste like it was store bought.’
Peanut butter chocolate milkshake ($58)
The peanut butter chocolate milkshake was definitely the best thing we sampled, and we’d recommend heading to this café for this and this alone. It had the perfect thick texture and strong peanut butter and chocolate flavours. Michael added, ‘The milkshake is really good. It’s so tasty. But I will definitely not be able to finish the entire drink.’ The milkshake may be a little too rich for one person, so we recommend sharing.
