Have you come across a scenario like this one with your partner?
‘Honey, let’s grab dinner.’
‘Sure! Where are you taking me?’
‘There’s this new, cosy Italian restaurant that has a two-month wait list, but I pulled some strings and got us a corner table for tonight.’
‘Are you seriously taking me to another restaurant? What’s with you and your non-mobile dining ideas?! It’s like you’re not even trying.’
Too relatable, you’re saying? Well fret not, because for those of you who find eating at a brick-and-mortar restaurant beyond tiresome, you now have the option of dining in a double-decker bus.
Crystal Bus is a double-decker sightseeing bus equipped with dining tables. A 2.5-hour afternoon ride will send you to over 20 scenic spots around Hong Kong, with catering provided by One Dim Sum. A journey costs $380 for tourists and $285 for locals until the end of August (use code HK8888 when booking online). Private night tours are also available and are priced at $8,800 per bus from Monday–Thursday and $12,800 per bus on weekends and public holidays, with a total capacity of 47 passengers. Routes can be designed according to preference for night tours, with dinner options selected from a list of partnering restaurants. Also on board are quality audio equipment, lighting effects, electronic gaming devices and card games.
HK$10 million and 20 months were invested in this project to build the bus from scratch and obtain the necessary licenses. The company is permitted to run this tour for the next 15 years.
Hot on the heels of Hong Kong’s controversial Food Truck Pilot Scheme is another project that aims to put a twist on the conventional methods of food service. We can’t make up our minds on whether we like this idea or not yet, but hey, at least you’ve got another date-night idea to fuel your ever-dwindling relationship and shut your goddang partner up for at least one night.
