Azores
You can forget the ferry ride if you’re hankering for some Macanese grub, as Yuen Long now has its own taste of Macau at Azores. Azores is named after the Portuguese archipelago comprised of nine islands and seems a fitting moniker for this restaurant, which offers a dining experience filled with the unique Portuguese cuisine refined with the African, Indian, Malaccan and Chinese ingredients that make it Macanese. You’ll find dishes using ingredients brought over from Macau, including salted fish, shrimp roe, Portuguese tinned sardines, salted cold, chorizo, Macanese beer, Mateus rosé and pastries from Yeng Kee Bakery, which all aim to deliver those true Macanese flavours.

aha
This quirkily named “stylish casual” restaurant takes up the space that once housed veggie haven HOME – Eat to Live. Aha – an acronym for “a happy attitude”, “a holistic approach”, “a heart-warming atmosphere”, “a healthy aura” and “a healing art” – also places an an emphasis on health-conscious dishes, with dietician-approved menu labels indicating which items are good sources of protein and fibre and low in sodium. The dishes run the gamut from bento boxes, to homemade pasta, to mini pizzas, to meat and seafood, to desserts, cold-pressed juices and afternoon tea. We’re psyched to try the salad bar ($50 for 2 choices; $70 for 4 choices), with highlights including quinoa kale salad, pan-fried tofu salad and pumpkin beetroot salad. HOME, we’ll never forget you, but it sounds like aha is a worthy replacement.

Relocation
Mercedes Me closed its doors in December 2017 for a brief spell to move to a bigger, more prominent location, also in Central. No word on where as yet, but what we do know is that Maximal Concepts (Brickhouse, Fish & Meat, Blue, Mott 32, Limewood) will retain the Entertainment Building location, which we hope means that a new Maximal restaurant is on the cards…
