Recently I had the pleasure of joining the folks from Pilsner Urquell at the Brewers and Makers workshop event at Feather & Bone’s shop in Mid-Levels.
Pilsner Urquell is a Czech brewery celebrating 177 years. It created the world’s first golden lager. This event uniquely highlighted the craftmanship of the lager alongside craftsmen who share the same value and quality in their products. It was a lot of fun getting creative whilst sipping on a beer.
One of the craftsmen was from Fungus Workshop, a Sai Ying Pun–based leather workshop that run courses in making leather bags and accessories.
We then watched an interesting and highly entertaining sausage-making demonstration by Feather & Bone’s head butcher, Steven. Should you wish to learn how to make your own sausages, they offer courses (contact them for details). This was a lot of fun, and the end product was delicious.
Following the sausage-making demo, Feather & Bone served up three courses to pair with the three different pours of Pilsner Urquell. Yes, there is more than one way to pour a pint!
1) Mliko – wet foam
2) Hladinka – smooth pour (what most of us are used too)
3) Šnyt – Czech half-pint
My personal favourite was the Milko – a pint of foam – which can be drunk quickly before it settles. It stops the bloated-belly feeling you often get after a few pints.
