We all love a good celebration, especially one that involves delicious food and drink. Hotal Colombo, Black Sheep Restaurants’ soulful Sri Lankan eatery, has a lot to celebrate in December – five successful years heating up the Hong Kong dining scene with the spicy, sour, and sweet flavours of the Pearl of the Indian Ocean.

Chef Gizzy Alesbrook is marking this momentous occasion with a commemorative one-night-only feast on Dec. 9 (HKD488 pp), starring both treasured staples on Hotal Colombo’s menu since the eatery’s inception as well as newer hits.

The anniversary menu kicks off with a trio of “short eats” – chilli potato fry, bone-marrow varuval with pol roti, and beef kothu. These smaller sharing bites are followed by the main attraction. Seafood Kool, a traditional tamarind-based seafood stew originating in Jaffna, is loaded with crab, clams, prawns, and mussels and served with garlic paratha for dunking to your heart’s content. Think of it as Sri Lanka’s kicked-up version of French bouillabaisse.

Ending the meal with a bang, there’s a special (surprise) birthday cake courtesy of the bakers over at Butter Bake Shop.
