First opened in Hong Kong in 1928, Jimmy’s Kitchen is back with a bang in Central, reopening in Pedder Building right next to its original restaurant space.
The legendary 96-year-old restaurant, which originated in Shanghai, closed its doors in May 2020, and regulars have been hankering for its return ever since.
A Hong Kong institution, Jimmy’s Kitchen is beloved for serving up a uniquely Hong Kong-style Western menu, featuring iconic dishes such as beetroot and vegetable borscht (HKD108), Jimmy’s beef stroganoff (HKD258), and chicken supreme Kiev (HKD238) – a time capsule back to the eatery’s heyday in the 1960s and 70s.
Dessert at the restaurant is very special indeed, offering diners Jimmy’s signature baked Alaska (HKD228), flambéed tableside, and beloved strawberry omelette (HKD198).
The newly opened Main Bar at Jimmy’s Kitchen showcases a series of East-meets-West cocktails (HKD140 each) like Jimmy Borscht Mary, Canton Old Fashion, and twinning Strawberry Omelette, whilst a satellite café and bar located within the same building – JK on the 5th – is another more casual drinking and dining option, this time focused on whisky and champagne.
Executive chef Russell Doctrove joins the team to lead Jimmy’s Kitchen’s revival in Central, introducing a selection of lighter and more modern dishes, with an emphasis on the restaurant’s crudo bar. These newcomers include bluefin tuna (HKD188) with roasted aubergine and toasted buckwheat and king crab leg (HKD228) with a citrus hollandaise brûlée.
