Back in 2022, Black Sheep Restaurants’ transformation of the historic Central Magistracy building at Tai Kwun – now known as simply The Magistracy – began taking shape. First to open that autumn was classic British restaurant The Magistracy Dining Room, alongside Botanical Garden, a lush outdoor terrace headlined by gin and tonics.
The grand revival of the multi-storey heritage site continued this year with the debut of Prince and the Peacock last month, a tribute to India’s legendary palace kitchens.
The final phase of Black Sheep’s ambitious multi-concept restaurant project at The Magistracy – the very deserving winner of our Foodie Forks 2024 Best Restaurant Design award – is now complete with the opening of Jack’s Racquet Room, an offshoot of the Indian restaurant.
The swanky sports bar, inspired by the members’ lounges and sports clubs of days gone by, has been christened in honour of Jack Gonsalves, the larger-than-life group mâitre d’ for Black Sheep and an integral member of the Hong Kong F&B community.
Along with beer, wine, cocktails, and more libations priced from just HKD28, the bar offers a succinct menu of tempting Indian snacks like triple-cooked masala chips with Cheddar (HKD68) and tangy-spicy peanut chaat (HKD68) for munching.
At Jack’s Racquet Room, the top cricket, tennis, and rugby matches of the day are broadcast on wall-to-wall screens, a nod to Jack’s love of sport.
