In Sheung Wan, 1908 British Chinese presents a sub-cuisine of Chinese cooking that many are not familiar with in Hong Kong, whilst others adore: British-Chinese takeaway food.
The restaurant opened in 2021, inspired by the founders’ journey from Hong Kong to Bristol in southwest England and back again, bringing along the recipes adored by many Brits.
Dishes like crispy shredded beef (HKD198), sesame butterfly prawn toast (HKD160), and chip shop curry house special (HKD268) are staples of the restaurant, exhibiting how Chinese food in the UK has been shaped by the British palate.
The not-so-Chinese 1908BC fish and chips (HKD230), served with pea mash and curry sauce, follows a recipe closely associated with British versions of the dish, striking high in authenticity.
The eatery’s terrace is a pleasant space to enjoy a meal when the weather plays in our favour.
