A unique experience for fans of both Chinese tea and Chinese music, the West Kowloon Cultural District has teamed up with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) to present a new programme, Chinese Tea & Music, on two Saturdays in April and May.
The event is set to take place at Xiqu Centre’s immersive Tea House Theatre on Apr. 26 and May 31 at 2:30PM, designed to mimic the atmosphere of the teahouses of Hong Kong in the early 1900s. Whilst a string quartet from the HKCO performs a series of classical Chinese musical pieces, the aroma of China tea will waft throughout the audience.
Adding to the multisensory buzz, tea master Lu Yuanyuan from Linong Tea will be on hand demonstrating traditional tea-brewing techniques and pairing different Chinese teas with the musical pieces. Tea-culture expert Dr Frankie Yeung Wai-shing will share insights on the historical connections between tea art and Hong Kong culture. The narrator of the programme, Dr Hui Yin from HKCO, will explain how Chinese music and tea art are intertwined.
Tickets to the 45-minute performance are priced at HKD260 per person and can be purchased online.
