It’s no mean feat having survived for several decades in Hong Kong’s fickle dining landscape. Central’s Lan Kwai Fong district in particular has seen its fair share of restaurant and bar closures over the past half-decade.
One LKF mainstay, however, is Tokio Joe, standing strong on Lan Kwai Fong itself for 30 years with its unique brand of modern Japanese cuisine.
In honour of three decades of success in the ‘hood, Tokio Joe has launched a month-long 30th-anniversary dinner tasting menu (HKD1,010 pp), available until Oct. 10, showcasing the restaurant’s most well-loved dishes over the years. The menu is inclusive of a complimentary 300ml bottle of Hanatomoe sake.
Highlights of the six-course tasting menu include the tofu uni ae made with fresh Japanese tofu, sweetened soybeans, sweet shrimp, and crabmeat, sashimi trio kinmuchi style with halibut, salmon, and toro, and miso kelp-grilled sea bass.
If you don’t want to go the whole hog, the restaurant has also refreshed its à-la-carte menu for the same period, offering iconic signature dishes dating back to its opening. Joe’s sushi duo (HKD130) with spicy tuna crunch and spicy sushi cake, a pioneering fusion plate introduced in 1999, and spicy toro tartare (HKD340), a favourite of David Beckham from 2000, are just a few of these oldies but goodies.
