To say that we are huge fans of Chef Que would be an understatement. We swooned over his macaroon ice cream sandwiches at his first private kitchen TBLS, and followed him through a stint at The Tipping Point, before we applauded his unique Vietnamese-inspired twist on fine dining at Quest by Que.

However, all good things must end, and Chef Que will be hanging up his apron to pursue other ventures. When asked about his future plans, he alluded that since he is turning the big 4-0 this year, he’d like to take a break to travel and spend more time with family.

A true family man, Chef Que admits that “it’s always very difficult to balance family life and career. I’m a very hands-on dad and I don’t want to miss [my girls] growing up. That’s one of the big reasons why I decided to close Quest.”

There’s no concrete plans as of yet for the future, but Que is definitely staying in the restaurant business. When asked what alternative career he would be interested in if he ever left the culinary world, Chef Que remarked that he has been bitten by the Brazilian jiu jitsu bug, and would love to teach kids’ self-defense and anti-bullying classes.

This past Saturday will mark the final dinner at Quest, and the farewell menu packed plenty of favourites, including yellowtail sashimi with tomato jelly, Iberico pork doughnut banh mi, pho braised pork belly and pandan sponge cake.

Onwards and forwards – we wish Chef Que the best of luck!
