Being unable to rely on the usual influx of summer tourists, restaurants and hotels in Hong Kong have had to think on their feet in order to survive. One of the outcomes has been an unprecedented deluge of Hong Kong accommodation deals (with sweeteners), aimed at an audience who already lives here.
Some of Foodie’s editors and contributors have jumped on amazing deals around the city and have submitted their reviews for your reading pleasure.
Pro tip: we have been seeing some long queues when checking in for staycations – look for a deal with a flexible check-in time or ask the hotel if they will let you check in a little early.

L’hotel élan
One of Foodie’s editors reviewed the A Taste of Asian Delights – Family Time! package (from $660/night) with children at L’hotel élan. The package included an extra bed and an in-room Asian set dinner and was great value for money.
After staying for just one night, we thought it was an ideal spot for an affordable staycation that’s a little off the beaten track. The rooftop pool and delicious in-room dinner together were worth the price. If you need ideas for ways to round out your staycation, go for a seafood lunch at the nearby small fishing village of Lei Yue Mun and check out the beauty that is Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden in Diamond Hill.

The St. Regis Hong Kong
Long time Foodie contributor Jenni Lien tried the 24-Hour Plus package (from $3,888/night) at The St. Regis, which includes a $1,000 hotel credit to burn through.
With The St. Regis, you get luxury. The rooms are amazing, the food is amazing (both Rùn and L’Envol have each already earned a Michelin star), the views are amazing – and you’ll pay a pretty penny! But if you’re looking for a special treat, it’d be hard not to have a memorable time.

Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel
Jenni also tried the Your Memories Are Our Memories package ($888/night) at the Marco Polo in Kowloon. The Marco Polo is beloved in HK for holding the German Bierfest in October (sadly cancelled again this year).
If you’re looking for a staycation to rest, sleep, eat and maybe shop, the Marco Polo is a great option. They’ve smartly set it up so that guests can enjoy many different parts of the hotel without incurring a lot of extra charges.

The Landmark Mandarin Oriental
Tough Foodie contributor David Greenberg went to The Landmark Mandarin Oriental for a Staycation by M.O. (from $3900/night), which includes some hotel credits (to spend at SOMM, for example, pictured above), discounts and experiences. He is nothing if not transparent: “You give the hotel itself a solid A. The food component, comprising about 25% of the cost, ranges from bad to okay to excellent. Though it’s misleading to average these ratings, you give the food an overall C+. Therefore, weighting everything, you give your staycation a B – good, not excellent.”

Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong
Jenni visited Kerry Hotel to try the Millennials Me Time package (from $4,200/night), which included breakfast, yoga, a massage and cocktails.
Staying at Kerry Hotel felt like going on vacation. The colours, the vibe and especially the pool take you away from the hectic urban grind. It can get busy though, so be warned that if crowds, kids and noise aren’t your thing, ask for a room away from bar Red Sugar.

It’s got a nice mix of excitement in the F&B options, refinement in the amenities and comfort in the rooms – just as great for a romantic getaway as it is for a friend, family or indulgent solo stay. The Summer Escapade package is no longer current, but there are a number of other staycation deals to choose from.
