Five years ago, we were thrilled when US burger brand Shake Shack first opened its doors at ifc mall. It’s serving up its signature burgers, crinkle-cut fries, shakes and frozen custard concoctions to the hungry HK masses. Since then they’ve expanded across the 852, and count seven outlets here in Hong Kong and one in Macau.
Shake Shack’s fifth-anniversary HK celebrations kicked off earlier this week with the unveiling of a mural by HK-born Pakistani artist Ahmad Rida Nisar at the newly refurbished OG outlet at ifc mall. The vibrant mural playfully connects the original Shake Shack hot dog cart in the Big Apple to the brand’s first outpost in Hong Kong. Depicting Central, The Peak, Victoria Harbour, Tsim Sha Tsui and Ocean Park, it also incorporates distinctly HK elements like the bauhinia flower and iconic signage.
New treats
The reopening of the ifc Shack coincides with the debut of a brand-new Shack Attack frozen custard treat. It’s a collaboration with local fave Cookie DPT, which is also marking five years in the 852. This Shack Attack, is available at all locations from 29 April. It features a decadent mix of Shake Shack’s chocolate frozen custard, fudge sauce, Cookie DPT’s double chocolate cookie chunks, topped with cocoa powder.

The fifth-anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the year. In July, a new Shack outlet will open in a local district. And then in August, we can expect the launch of the Boozy Fifty/Fifty. The ½ lemonade, ½ iced tea is a collab with a local vodka brand. The Pacific Place branch will debut a dessert partnership with a home-grown pizza brand in October. While November will see the launch of a special limited-time menu created exclusively for the HK market.
Here’s to another five years in the Kong, Shake Shack!
