We’re all about community here at Foodie, so we wanted to give a special shout-out to Black Sheep Restaurants for their commitment to making meaningful change in the 852.
The F&B group’s recently announced Family Fund has a two-fold mission. First, Black Sheep has pledged to take care of its own team members – the servers and kitchen staff who toil the longest hours – through interest-free loans for education, emergency grants and more, providing a safety net during these tough pandemic times. In the past decade, a portion of Black Sheep’s profits have already provided around HK$10 million in assistance to their internal community.
“Service has always been at the heart of who we are and what we do at Black Sheep, and building the strong community that makes up our team is the result of that. We have always been supporting our team through the Family Fund, but as we move forward in our journey as a hospitality team, we have an understanding in our hearts that our community is not just those people in Black Sheep, but the greater ecosystem that we are a part of. We are proud to be announcing the formalisation of Family Fund and its outer ring; the partnership with Feeding Hong Kong is the first step.” – Black Sheep Restaurants founder Syed Asim Hussain
The external focus for the Family Fund comes in the form of Black Sheep’s new long-term charity partner, Feeding Hong Kong, whose mission echoes that of the hospitality group – to reduce food waste and feed the hungry in Hong Kong. Over the next two years, Black Sheep aims to raise HK$3 million to support the charity. The first part of this fundraising initiative occurred this past March in honour of International Women’s Day, when Black Sheep raised over HK$180K through its first Team Canteen Community Day and Dinner for a Cause event.
Black Sheep’s support for Feeding Hong Kong is not brand new. Three years ago, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when the group’s restaurants were shut for daily service, they reached out to support the charity during some of the city’s darkest hours, providing warm meals to the elderly for a critical four-month period.
Giving back to the community is hugely important. We wish Black Sheep Restaurants and Feeding Hong Kong a very fruitful two-year partnership ahead.
