1. The Bayside & O’Thai

Silver Spoon sister restaurants The Bayside and O’Thai have recently debuted their own adjacent harbourfront afternoon tea experiences that sound ideal for al-fresco noshing. Up first, The Bayside’s afternoon tea platter is a Mediterranean affair showcasing comfort-food bites the likes of the Ibérico ham with crystal tomato bread, salmon tartare, Wagyu beef slider, and tiramisu.
Moving next door to O’Thai, sweet and savoury Thai flavours are the obvious choices for this set, from the shrimp cake and chicken skewer to the mango sticky rice.
Both afternoon tea experiences are priced at HKD148 for one, with a glass of Prosecco or sangria costing just HKD30.

2. Dim Sum Library

Reopened last May following an extensive revamp, sleek yum cha specialist Dim Sum Library has introduced a free-flow afternoon tea set presented in a charming birdcage-shaped tiered stand. Over the course of a two-hour period, diners can get their fill of creative all-you-can-eat dim sum, appetisers, mains, and sweets, including bestsellers like the dan dan xiao long bao, black garlic siu mai, Wagyu beef puff with black pepper, and oolong crème brûlée. The set comes with a complimentary tea-infused mocktail.

3. Tomacado

Beijing import Tomacado, a combined flower shop and East-meets-West restaurant, features a dreamy dining space that is a floral work of art. On the fusion teatime menu are the likes of the smoked beef with fig croissant, sweet potato and white chocolate cake, raspberry opera cake, and a striking chocolate mousse whose design mimics Beijing’s Temple of Heaven. The star of the set is the peony tea with longan honey, made from the finest peony flowers from Luoyang, China.

4. Cuisine Cuisine (The Mira Hong Kong)

To the joy of dim sum lovers around town, The Mira Hong Kong’s award-winning Cantonese restaurant Cuisine Cuisine has recently launched a weekday afternoon tea service – a first since opening 15 years ago. Dim sum chef Ringo Wong and executive pastry chef Smita Grosse have collaborated to design a showstopping East-meets-West tea set in tribute to Hong Kong’s culinary heritage. Amongst the many sweet and savoury yum cha bites on offer, the baked Yoshihama abalone puff pastry with chicken and Yunnan ham is presented in an ornate birdcage and the jasmine-tea-smoked jumbo pineapple bun with conpoy and BBQ pork is dramatically unveiled in a wooden treasure chest amongst a cloud of smoke. This quintessentially Hong Kong teatime experience is uniquely complemented by one welcome glass of Mindful Sparks sparkling tea per person.

5. Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

Over at the Grand Hyatt, Tiffin’s signature afternoon tea service has been made even more refined with the inclusion of a luxe tableside dessert trolley loaded up with gorgeous sweets for diners to pick and choose as they fancy, as well as the restaurant’s popular dessert station dishing out unlimited ice cream, freshly made crêpes and waffles, and seasonal fruits. In classic fashion, the tiered portion of the tea set features an assortment of inventive sweets and savouries, from the smoked salmon, lemon ricotta, and trout roe millefeuille and foie gras crème brûlée tart to the rose and raspberry St Honoré and matcha red bean éclair.

6. Magistracy Dining Room

At Magistracy Dining Room, chef Alyn Williams has put his grand stamp on the long-standing tradition of British afternoon tea. The chef’s Saturday teatime menu presents an array of sweet and savoury morsels, including stunners like the mini sausage roll, coronation chicken toasted crumpet, crunchy chocolate hazelnut shell, and raspberry white chocolate choux. Enhancing these refined food offerings is an outstanding selection of British tea.

7. WATERMARK

Reopened last year at Pier 7 in Central, WATERMARK has amped up to its waterfront appeal with a sumptuous yet affordably priced afternoon tea set comprising four savoury and five sweet bites. Standouts on the savoury side include the seared Hokkaido scallop and lobster tartlet, whilst the strawberry cheesecake and mango and passion-fruit mousse cake are sweet stars.

1. Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong

Those of us with a penchant for cheesecake should head over to Hyatt Centric’s Cruise restaurant this season for a taste of this teatime collaboration with Sbakery by Mama Soo. The home-grown cheesecake specialist takes the lead with the sweet bites featured in the set, from the apple crumble mini cheesecake to the New York chocolate chip and sea salt cheesecake cookie. 2. JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong

JW Marriott’s afternoon tea set this winter, Blooming Bliss, is a partnership with Finnish design house Marimekko, with the bites on offer inspired by the brand’s joyful prints and the tableware stamped with the iconic Unikko print. Traditional Nordic flavours are on show in the savouries, such as the Scandinavian shrimp salad and tobiko tart and pickled herring fillet with onion-dill salad. The beautifully crafted sweets take their cues from the muted pastel colour palette of Marimekko’s latest home collection.

3. The Langham, Hong Kong

At elegant tea room Palm Court at The Langham this winter, executive pastry chef Tin Lai has designed a creative, wellness-focused afternoon tea in union with Skin Need, a locally founded brand that stands out for its cruelty- and toxin-free vegan skincare products. Several of the sweet and savoury treats, such as the smoked salmon seaweed sandwich and raspberry and pistachio cake, highlight Skin Need’s hero ingredients. Two special plant-based bites – the beetroot and pomelo vegan tartlet and vegan carrot cake – are also on board.

4. W Hong Kong

Luscious ivy tree raw honey, native to Hong Kong, takes pride of place this winter at W Hong Kong’s WOOBAR. This home-grown honey is showcased in a diverse range of Instagram-worthy morsels by executive pastry chef Pong Ngan, including the honey-glazed eel, honey mustard gammon with avocado hummus and Gouda sandwich, a sweet bite dubbed “Raw Eucalyptus” made with layers of Cointreau-infused baba topped with a bee-shaped chocolate and honeycomb design, and jasmine honey scones. To set the tone, guests can sip on a bespoke cocktail starring ivy tree raw honey.

5. Hopewell Hotel

Hopewell Hotel has Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day on the brain with the debut of this red- and white-hued afternoon tea collaboration with SOFINA in recognition of the Japanese skincare brand’s newly launched ALBLANC product line. The presentation of the set is quite theatrical, involving a combination of dried flower decorations and orange-blossom-scented dry ice. The four savoury bites, such as the beetroot-cured salmon tart and salami and cream cheese ravioli, take a Western approach, whilst the four sweets are more Asian in focus (think pandan cake with sea salt coconut ganache and black sesame yuzu cube tart). Guests can select either a themed mocktail or cocktail to seal the deal.

6. The Park Lane Hong Kong

Another afternoon tea with Valentine’s Day in mind, Ebb & Flow at The Park Lane is serving up a rose-inspired tea set in shades of pink and red. 7. Upper House Hong Kong

Upper House Hong Kong has partnered with its sister hotel Upper House Chengdu to bring this crossover afternoon tea to its top-floor restaurant Salisterra, inspired by the China hotel’s Michelin-starred Mi Xun Teahouse restaurant, which has also been honoured with a Green Star for its commitment to sustainable gastronomy. This elevated tea set – arriving just in time for Chinese New Year – places Sichuan flavours on a pedestal in signature Mi Xun delicacies the likes of the Yunnan morel, lotus root, and Sichuan sauce, spinach noodles with dan dan sauce, osmanthus rice wine yam cake, and macaron with black sesame buttercream.

8. The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

The seasonal sky-high tea at The Ritz-Carlton’s Café 103 is a partnership with esteemed champagne house Perrier-Jouët. The set pays tribute to the blossoms, heritage, and joie de vivre associated with the Gallic bubbly-maker. The sweets are classically French, from the entremet of Valrhona Jivara 40% chocolate with its praline core to the canelé flavoured with camomile and honey. It’s with the savouries that the culinary team show off their true innovation; for instance, The Gilded Wave is a snow crab cake with lemon aioli, whilst The Belle Époque Pearl features caviar blini with crème fraîche and champagne gel.

9. Royal Plaza Hotel, Hong Kong

Lion Rock Chinese restaurant at Royal Plaza Hotel in Mong Kok has teamed up with Hong Kong skincare brand Therapeautic for a health-conscious tea set zeroing in on several of the company’s natural ingredients. Highlights include the vanilla cactus and pistachio mousse cake fashioned to resemble a potted cactus plant and cica matcha mille crêpe cake. On the savoury front, the cold prawn and salmon roe with cucumber yoghurt on toast and crabmeat and wasabi crab roe salad with lemon aloe vera jelly are standout fresh, light bites. Two special drinks accompany the set: the carrot-apple smoothie and pistachio latte.

10. The St. Regis Hong Kong

The St. Regis Hong Kong’s seasonal afternoon tea experience at The Drawing Room is a partnership with Italian chocolatier Venchi brushed with festive touches in honour of the Year of the Horse. As always at The Drawing Room, diners are tasked with customising their own line-up of a total of eight sweets and/or savouries from the trolley, ranging from the lobster roll accented with chilli-laced dark chocolate and braised beef puff made with sugar-free dark chocolate to the extra-dark chocolate canelé and milk chocolate almond crunch.
