This hard-to-book Cantonese restaurant in Tai Wai may be New Territories’ top spot for enjoying hearty dim sum and 20th-century Cantonese classics rarely explored in the city.
Tai Wai Dining Room is led by chef Lam Chi Hung and chef Chau Wai Hung, as the pair head back decades into past kitchens with well-researched and laboriously crafted dishes that tell an old Hong Kong story.
A dim sum meal is suited for trying their Canton style egg puff, Sichuan-style fried pork heart, premium soup dumplings, and old-school beef bone broth. Their dark pork char siu has been lauded as one of Hong Kong’s best.
Nostalgia is the aim of the game with their a lá carte menu, which sees traditional dishes like braised carapace skirt, eight treasure duck, and deep-fried prawn wrapped walnut shine.
The Cantonese restaurant was recognised by Michelin Guide Hong Kong with a Bib Gourmand award, noting their strong dim sum menu and embrace of foregone Cantonese culinary traditions.
