Kikanbo, a ramen chain popular for its fiery Japanese noodle soups, delivers Hong Kong’s spiciest bowl of ramen, ready to hit your tongue with numbing heat.
Selling a range of karashibi miso ramen bowls (kara meaning “red pepper” and shibi meaning “fragrant numbness oil”), each spoonful brings deep spicy and numbing flavours to the palate. The original ramen bowl is priced from HKD95, with bowls going up to HKD140 for two added chunks of pork.
The highest level of heat offered at Kikanbo that’s needed to attain Hong Kong’s spiciest bowl of ramen is the ONI level (+HKD15), featuring both the notorious Carolina Reaper chilli and sansho pepper to evoke that familiar tongue-numbing feeling associated with Sichuan cuisine. Oni means “devilish” in Japanese.
Each ONI ramen bowl is made with six kinds of red pepper, Japanese sansho pepper, and Sichuan peppercorn to torture guests who decide to challenge themselves with its heavy-handed spice.
