Popularised by the 1998 film The Lucky Guy featuring Stephen Chow, Hung Wan Cafe is set to reopen tomorrow (Apr. 18) following its closure in December 2024.

Hung Wan Cafe originally closed in relation to poor business in the midst of a shaky economic revival in Hong Kong last year, yet boarding has gone up again on the cha chaan teng, placing the final touches for its reopening.

The cha chaan teng gained notoriety from the 1998 comedy film, in which Ho Kam Sui, played by Stephen Chow, bands together with his friends to save Hung Wan Cafe (known as Lucky Cafe in the movie) by selling one egg tart at a time.

The old interior and menu classics, including the café’s famous egg tarts, milk tea, and pineapple buns, will remain for the reopening.
