Although food courts are most often associated with mall dining in the USA, Hong Kong has its fair share of eclectic food halls where diners can sample a diverse selection of flavours from around the world, usually at wallet-friendly prices.

If you’re looking to dine on a myriad of global cuisines all under one roof, we have the answer with Foodie’s list of the top food courts in the city.

The best food courts in Hong Kong

BaseHall 01 & 02

BaseHall The best food courts in Hong Kong

BaseHall is undoubtedly the king of Hong Kong’s food-court scene. A pandemic success story, BaseHall 01 debuted in the basement of Central’s Jardine House in the summer of 2020, with BaseHall 02 following just two years later. Both halls offer a curated range of Hong Kong’s best F&B experiences in two stylish and comfortable spaces. Currently, BaseHall 01, the smaller but brighter of the two, houses nine concepts, with Cô Thành (Vietnamese), Nocino (Swiss Italian), and Return of Lemak (Singaporean and Malaysian) the heavy hitters of the pack.

Moody BaseHall 02 is much more spacious and offers ample seating options. This area currently features 13 varied concepts. It’s hard to choose favourites, but our latest lunchtime go-tos are Henry’s tomato curry ox-tongue rice from JJ’s Restaurant, an offshoot of Big JJ Seafood Hotpot, any one of CUÍT’s amazing sourdough focaccia sandwiches, and Ah Chun Shandong Dumpling’s Michelin-recommended lamb and scallion dumplings. The complimentary still and sparkling water and convenient QR code ordering system are two more reasons we make BaseHall a weekly Central pit stop.

Moving from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon, we land at Eaton Food Hall in the basement of the hip Eaton HK boutique hotel. This food court aims to foster a sense of local love in a cool space inspired by the edgy Wong Kar-wai films of the 1990s, even offering an in-house radio station and cultural programming focused on community issues. On board for food are nine food stalls, both Eastern and Western. Standouts include Katsuo Udon’s authentic Sanuki-style udon, the premium Argentinian and New Zealand steak cuts by The Meat Co., and Flower Years, Eaton HK’s bar specialising in burgers and beer.

Dockyard

Kerry Hotel in Hung Hom is the only five-star hotel we know of that houses an affordable food court, and that food hall is Dockyard. Instead of the standard underground space, the harbourfront locale of the hotel means that Dockyard is bright and airy, with mesmerising views of Hong Kong’s skyline to boot. There’s an Asian slant to the food up for grabs here, from chicken satay, pad thai, and other Thai delicacies by Bamboo Sticks, to samosa chaat, butter chicken, and more Indian delights from Naan, to Medium Rare’s Japanese gyudon. All the ordering from the food hall’s quick-service eateries and full-service bar is done via Dockyard’s very own app.

Swanky Tsim Sha Tsui shopping mall K11 MUSEA has its own connected basement spaces dedicated to food, Food Playground and Taste Chamber. Celebrated patisserie Gontran Cherrier is the star underground outlet; daily queues are a given for the bakery’s impeccable croissants and kouign-amann. There are more than a dozen other high-quality food kiosks for quick and tasty eats here too. Most noteworthy are the traditional wonton noodles served up at the outpost of legendary Mak’s Noodle and two spots that are cashing in on the Korean craze currently sweeping across Hong Kong: Oppa Korean Tofu House for Korean tofu pots and EGGWING, delivering egg toasts, Korean corn dogs, and more Korean street-food faves.

FOODMUSE is the stellar food court at one of Hong Kong’s newest malls, AIRSIDE, located in the up-and-coming Kowloon neighbourhood of Kai Tak. Thank the lord that this hall has an upper-floor address! FOODMUSE covers an incredible 10,000 square feet and presents more than 11 Eastern and Western cuisines for diners’ consideration. We’re usually drawn to the comforting local flavours of the char siu and scrambled egg with rice dished out by Blessed Alley and Shan Cheng Noodle’s soupy beef noodles.

If you’re heading to Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung for a day out shopping till you drop, you’d do well to fortify yourself with a bite or two at the mall’s food court, Food Opera (this hall is also a solid option for pre-flight dining). The top-floor food court is expansive, bringing together nine food stalls spanning across Asia. Worthwhile spots to visit include Thai Chiu for Thai rice and noodle plates, Little NanYang for Singaporean eats like fish ball laksa and Hainanese chicken rice, and Sai Kwan Jo Lo with its black BBQ Duroc pork rice dishes.
