in an announcement made by restaurant group Meraki Hospitality, Middle Eastern restaurant BEDU and Brazilian-Japanese Uma Nota will be hosting their final days of service on Jun. 21.
Opened in 2018 and 2017 respectively, the restaurants have been operated by Hong Kong hospitality mainstays and siblings Alex and Laura Offe.
“Uma Nota and BEDU have always been deeply personal for Laura and me, but they truly came alive thanks to our incredible team and wonderful guests. Our staff brought passion, creativity, and warmth every single day, and our guests filled our spaces with joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments,” says Alex in a press release.
“While closing these restaurants is bittersweet, the relationships and memories we’ve built together will always stay with us. We are deeply grateful to our community, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back with fresh ideas in the future.”
The pair cited “rising costs and the ever-changing landscape of the Hong Kong market” as reasons to stop business at the two restaurants.
Alex and Laura are set to open a new Thai restaurant in Manila, joining Uma Nota in the Philippines capital. Whilst their chapter in Hong Kong is coming to a close for now, they note their hope to return to the city in the future with a new concept.
