This year, Foodie is looking at making a bigger and better impact on the environment. Nothing’s gonna stop us. We’re getting ballsy… with one of Hong Kong’s most well-loved snacks, fish balls.

In partnership with Choose Right Today, a platform educating businesses and consumers about sustainable seafood, Gitone, a participating restaurant in past sustainable seafood festivals, and Fish Monk, a local sustainable seafood distributor, we’re hosting a fish ball workshop to get the low-down on our favourite balls – from exploring what’s in them to learning how to make them.

The purpose of this event is simple: we want you as consumers to realise that you can make a big impact with little changes in your everyday life. So what’s better than starting with a food that we eat all the time and see across Hong Kong… fish balls!

Look forward to…

1) Fish ball food war

What are the differences between commercial fish balls found in supermarkets and fish balls made from sustainable seafood sources? You tell us! Taste, rate and be the judge at our Food War: Fish Ball Edition. Join us in choosing the best balls in ’da house, before getting all the dirt on various fish ball types, their ingredients and what food labels on commercial packaging really mean.

2) Chef demonstration

We get it, balls can be… personal. Learn how to make your own fish balls in the comfort of your own home. Chef David Chan from Gitone restaurant will shed some light on how to use sustainably sourced fish to make a homemade, healthier and environmentally friendly alternative to the commercial fish balls we buy.
