Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 are all set to be unveiled on 26 March in Macau. In advance of the big ceremony, they’ve dangled a few winners out to spice up the anticipation for the event:

Chef Jimmy Lin of JL Studio TaiwanSo far they’ve announced the Miele One to Watch Award 2019, which has gone to Singaporean chef Jimmy Lim of JL Studio in Taichung, Taiwan, who has been reimagining Singapore’s famed hawker fare with Taiwanese ingredients and a fine-dining finesse.

The elit Vodka Asia’s Best Female Chef 2019 goes to Garima Arora of Gaa in Bangkok, where she crafts traditional Indian dishes into a modern tasting menu. Chef Arora earned her chops under none other than René Redzepi of Noma and was a sous-chef for four-time number 1 winner at Asia’s 50 Best, Gaggan – who clearly knows what Asia’s 50 Best are looking for when it comes to culinary experiences.

And a new award has been launched this year, the American Express Icon Award – Asia, which was given to Japanese chef Seiji Yamamoto of Nihonryori RyuGin. Chef Yamamoto is known for his attention to detail and mastery of seasonal Japanese ingredients, which have earned Nihonryori RyuGin three Michelin stars and a place at number 41 on last year’s The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, as well as placement within the top 10 of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for the past six years.
