Summer is fast approaching, and we know just how to make the heat more palatable! 2019 marks the seventh year of Riesling Weeks by Wines of Germany. This is a month-long celebration of German wine led by its most beloved grape variety, Riesling. Known for their high acidity and floral aromas, these white wines pair perfectly with a hot summer’s day, as well as a variety of fresh foods.
Together with Wines of Germany, your friends at Foodie will take you on a ride around Hong Kong to four different restaurants, where we’ll enjoy some refreshing food and German wine pairings. Starting in TST East and ending in Wanchai – all transport will be handled by us.
The start of summer in Germany also means that asparagus season is in full bloom. Each participating restaurant will be providing us with a unique asparagus dish.
With Foodie’s Riesling Ride, you’ll realise the versatility of these German wine favourites.
First stop: Namo Avant Thai, TST East
Namo Avant Thai takes Thai in a new direction. This harbourside restaurant from Mayfare Group (of TST’s beloved Gaylord) brings together a fusion of flavours in the form of traditional dishes made using the most modern of techniques. Here, we’ll be treated to beef tenderloin with white asparagus and seared salmon and white asparagus on red curry lemongrass foam. These creative Thai delights will be served alongside Deinhard Green Label Riesling and Philipp Kuhn Spätburgunder.
Second stop: Brasserie on the Eighth, Admiralty
Brasserie on the Eighth, located within the five-star Conrad Hong Kong, offers a classic French fine-dining experience. Known for the attentive service and refreshing European fare, we can’t wait to sample the pan-seared white asparagus with morel ragout and poached Taiyouran egg and the poached white asparagus with Ardenner ham and champagne vinaigrette. The former will be paired with Kühling-Gillot Qvinterra Riesling, while the latter will be paired with Philipp Kuhn Weissburgunder vom Kalksteinfel.
Third stop: Sueno, Wanchai
This quirky tapas spot in Wanchai specialises in Spanish delicacies. We’re talking pan-fried Ibérico presa and grilled octopus – with an asparagus twist! While we’re at it, we’ll be sipping on Walter J Oster Neefer Frauenberg Riesling Halbtrocken.
Final stop: Dynasty, Wanchai
Dynasty is the award-winning Chinese restaurant at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel in Wanchai. It celebrates truly authentic Cantonese cuisine and time-honoured recipes. We can’t wait to try the eatery’s special asparagus-centric Cantonese creations such as steamed assorted asparagus in black truffle paste and sautéed white asparagus and assorted fung iwith avocado. And with Sekthaus Raumland Prestige Riesling Brut and Philipp Kuhn Tradition Reisling, we certainly won’t be thirsty.
