Have you seen those adorable bento boxes that Japanese mums make for their children? They’re not just for show.

The perfect lunch box is made up of about 50% rice, 25% protein and 25% vegetables. Adhering to the philosophy of eating the rainbow, at least four colours should be present, and it needs to be packed in a way so that it doesn’t end up like fried rice after transit.

Get a head start! We’re offering a class to learn the amazing art of making bento boxes with your kids led by Hong Kong’s own natural parenting guru Tina C , bringing home one bento box per child attending.

Children involved in the process of making their own lunch are much more likely to eat it, and this means less for you to do in the morning as a bonus.

Our 26 May workshop will be held at the Campfire kitchen in Wong Chuk Hang (across the road from the MTR). Here’s what to expect:

You and your child will prepare your own bento box

Roll your (and your child’s) sleeves up and get to work! You and your child will create a Japanese-style bento box using healthy ingredients, with a demonstration and instructions from our master bento chef, @verymommytinac.

Tina is a mother of two lovely girls and is also an MC, actress and host for RoadShow. She makes vegetarian bento boxes for her daughters every day – so expect a very experienced bento chef and lots of vegetables in your bento box creation.
