Weekends are made for long, relaxed brunches, and we’ve put together a top list of contenders to make your brunching life easier. After all, we don’t want you to have a Netflix moment and be overwhelmed by all the choice out there…
Cardamon Street
Following a recent successful tasting at new Indian fusion restaurant Cardamon Street (read our review), we made a beeline back to try out this family- and pet-friendly eatery’s weekend brunch offerings, and we weren’t disappointed. Desi-style omelettes and egg dishes take centre stage – we enjoyed the lightly spiced maharaja eggs Benedict ($118), which comes with wilted spinach and eggless hollandaise sauce – but for us, it’s the Indian brekkie classics that truly shine here. In particular, chole batura ($118) is a guilty pleasure; the combination of spicy chickpea-based chana masala and puffy fried bread (puri) makes us go weak at the knees. Those with little ones in tow should note that although there’s not a dedicated kids’ brunch menu, the staff are extremely accommodating – and our four-year-old taste-tester proclaimed Cardamon Street’s scrambled egg the best she’s ever tried! *UPDATE: as of mid-August, dosas (from $88) have been added to the brunch menu,
and shisha ($220) – apple, lemon, grape and mint – is also an option if you’re in a hookah kinda mood.*

Hotal Colombo
Hotal Colombo’s chef, Gizzy Alesbrook, has now opened her bright and breezy Sri Lankan eatery to brunch-goers. And what a brunch it is! The feast starts with a selection of small bites like devilled chickpeas (they’re as fiery as their name suggests) and crunchy fried sprats for the table, then diners can each choose a main course. You can go more mainstream with dishes such as dosa, masala scrambled egg or cheese and chilli omelette, but we recommend going off-piste for the chicken and cheese paratha with gravy (pictured) – comfort food to the max. These dishes are served with a bevvy of sambols, salads and sides (we could slather the curry-leaf coconut chutney on just about anything). The weekly-changing dessert (which was a lovely, zesty lemon treacle tart on the week of our visit) can also be added on. The fingers bowls of warm water are a nice touch at the end of the meal; after all, it’s all about digging in and getting your hands dirty at this festive brunch.
When: Sundays, 12–4pm
Where: 31 Elgin Street, SoHo, Central
How much: $188/person for sharing starters + 1 main course; +$68 for dessert of the week

Bonus: ¿ONTAS? Night Brunch at Brickhouse
When Brickhouse opened a few years back, it was THE spot to see and be seen, both for its hidden location and cool vibe and its awesome Mexican street food. It’s gone a bit quiet at Brickhouse of late, but we think that’s about to change with the launch of the restaurant’s ¿ONTAS? Night Brunch, which sounds pretty darn perfect for the night owls amongst us. Guests can opt for The Full Package (food and drink) or Liquid Courage (2.5 hours free-flow drinks). Expect taco platters, guac and chips and micheladas aplenty.
When: Saturdays from 25 May 2019, 8–10:30pm
Where: 20 D’Aguilar Street, LKF, Central
How much: $650/person for The Full Package (2.5 hours free-flow G.H. Mumm, beer and signature cocktails + unlimited serves of Brickhouse’s signature dishes); $380/person for Liquid Courage (2.5 hours free-flow)
