With massive windows bringing in plenty of natural light and a sky-high ceiling, The Drawing Room at the newly opened The St Regis Hong Kong makes for a relaxing and luxurious location for a meal. The spacious dining room, seating 54, is connected to a terrace that seats an additional 38. At the helm in the kitchen is Executive Sous-Chef Vincent Leroux, accompanied by Executive Pastry Chef Chad Yamagata.

We recently disguised ourselves as “ladies who lunch” and sampled the highlights of the restaurant’s lunch menu.

The Drawing Room at The St Regis Hong Kong

To start, we munched on lobster summer roll ($218) packed with Boston lobster tail, avocado, heart of palm, vermicelli and shredded cucumber and carrot. Accompanying this refreshing starter was a nuoc cham dipping sauce and a highly addictive mango chilli sauce.

The Hainan chicken rice ($298) comes with a tomato-infused broth, chicken-oil rice and a bevy of condiments. The soup was a standout, with its the tart lightness balancing the richness of the rice and chicken (please note that because we were sampling all the main highlights, our portions were halved to give our waistlines a break).

The broth for the beef brisket flat noodles ($258) was poured tableside. We wished this bowl of noodles had more savoury flavours.

The Drawing club ($278) arrived looking more like a wrap than a sandwich, with the crustless bread rolled delicately around the grilled chicken, bacon, egg and vegetables. This tactic proved to be a winner, making for easy, mess-free eating. This warm, toasty sandwich was our favourite of the mains.

The iced millefeuille ($108) was almost too pretty to eat, made of frozen vanilla parfait, seasonal fruit compote and vanilla mascarpone ice cream. We thoroughly enjoyed the ripe, in-season peach that paired so beautifully with the vanilla cream.

Verdict

The Drawing Room is an elegant spot for lunch or afternoon tea. We highly recommend the lobster summer roll, grilled club sandwich and iced millefeuille. The items on the set lunch menu ($298/2 courses or $398/3 courses) change regularly.
