In light of COVID-19, we encourage diners to take precautions when going out. You can also support your favourite restaurants by getting takeaway and delivery.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to just about every large-scale F&B event being cancelled in 2020, with Oktoberfest being no exception. But while there may not be a big-ticket Marco Polo German Bierfest on the cards – it was also cancelled last year owing to anti-government protests – we can still celebrate in a few more low-key ways that involve good German food and drink.

BaseHall

BaseHall Hong Kong Oktoberfest

On 23 and 24 October, cool new food hall BaseHall is set to be transformed into a Bavarian beer hall, with the star of the show being local Young Master Brewery’s light, crisp Oktoberfest Pilsner, available exclusively during the event. To soak up all the beer, BaseHall’s food vendors will be presenting unique bites inspired by Oktoberfest – from BaseHall Bar’s currywurst, to a vegan sauerkraut pizza courtesy of TREEHOUSE, to Return of Lemak’s sotong-flavoured pretzel. To really get into the Oktoberfest spirit, there will be traditional Bavarian games on throughout the weekend including a “tapping of the cask” ceremony (7pm each day) and a beer-stein-holding competition. Open from 5pm till late on Friday the 23rd and 11am till late on Sunday the 24th (11am–5pm for family-friendly activities such as gingerbread cookie decorating with Cookie DPT).

Big Sur & INK

INK Hong Kong Oktoberfest

You can imagine you’re in a Bavarian beer tent with this al-fresco Oktoberfest offering at
INK, facing the harbour and the HK Island skyline. On 23 and 24 October, book a table (three seatings: 6pm, 6:30pm and 7pm) for a gut-busting German platter matched with a craft brew by home-grown Gweilo Beer. The menu ($380/person) includes German faves like bratwurst, roast ham hock, beer-steamed mussels, pretzels, sauerkraut, apple strudel and more.

Another Woolly Pig HK restaurant, Big Sur in SoHo is offering the same menu on Sunday, 25 October from 3–5pm, but it’s priced at only $280 per person because it doesn’t include a glass of alcohol. But you can still get your beer on with the eatery’s two-hour free-flow package ($198/person), which includes beer, wine and micheladas.
