Easter afternoon tea at K11 ARTUS

It seems like just about every hotel and restaurant around town has come up with an afternoon tea offering for Easter, but our pick of the lot goes to Tea by the Harbour at The Commune ($720 for 2) at luxury service residence K11 ARTUS – or, as they describe it: Asia’s first “artisanal home”. Launching on Saturday, 3 April from 3–5:30pm, the set showcases tasters of signature items from The Commune’s à-la-carte East-meets-West menu (we got a sneak peek and loved the Asian hamachi ceviche ball and Japanese pork belly bao), as well as special sweet extras such as pandan crème brûlée and pineapple bun choux, freshly baked scones with all the accompaniments (including some lovely tea-infused homemade blueberry jam), Alain Milliat juices and teas courtesy of local brand TeaCha. For Easter (3–6 April), each set will include a box of chocolates and some Easter-inspired decorations to boot.

Breakfast at Bathers

With Hong Kong weather being like it is, Easter weekend is usually the first time we dip our toes into the water for the year, so we love that beachside Bathers restaurant will be serving up breakfast as well as all-day dining for Easter. Available from Thursday the 1st until Tuesday the 6th from 9–11am, Bathers’ breakfast dishes (from $85) include avocado sourdough toast with tomato, chilli and poached egg, house-cured salmon with sourdough toast and scrambled egg and – the winner for us hearty folk – the Lantau Big Start (house-made pork sausage, smoked bacon, grilled tomato, mushrooms, poached egg and sourdough toast).

Pizza-making party at Motorino

Pizza for Easter? Count us in if it means Motorino’s authentic Neapolitan-style pies. The pizzeria’s SoHo branch is hosting an Easter-themed pizza-making party ($298/adult; $198/child) on Monday, 5 April, which will see you making (and eating) your own pizza from scratch. The price includes a selection of antipasti, dessert and free-flow house beer and wine. This sounds like a fun family activity during the Easter hols.

La Viña’s spring picnic bread basket

La Viña has teamed up with local actress (and avid home baker) Grace Chan to create a range of Easter delicacies that include seasonal flavours of the shop’s popular Basque cheesecake: Japanese sakura ($48/3” or $308/6”) and yuzu and red bean ($38/3” or $368/6”). But as tempting as those cakes sound, we’re jonesing for the spring picnic bread basket ($168), packed with four hot cross buns, four of sibling shop Smoke & Barrels’ pulled pork buns in a cute chick design and a jar of homemade fruit jam – that should keep us happy for at least a few meals. We’re big fans of Cookie Smiles for these reasons: the social enterprise’s tasty cookies are baked up by disadvantaged bakers and 20% of their annual profits are donated to the HK Down Syndrome Association and Splash Foundation, a local learn-to-swim charity. These beautifully decorated Blessed Easter cookies ($80 for 2) would certainly bring a big smile to any recipient.
